The original idea for this application was generated during our house hunting last year. We spent lots of time checking out new and old houses that time, we really need some kind of handy stuff which allow us taking pictures, record our own observation, write down cash/mortgage/loan incentives sellers don't want to put on printout or publish online, remember address/direction. We can compare those records later, show them to friends for their opinions.

For a first time house buyers like us, getting a house is a big step in life, we also wanted to keep a journal for it ...

Then we developed this wonderful application -- shoppingPal, we found it very helpful in house hunting.

It is also very nice to use at our fashion shopping, especially for those items we couldn't make decision ...

In addition, it become very useful in furniture shopping as well, for us, we took pictures and wrote down price, dimensions for the furniture at first and then figured out if they could fit into our living room/bedrooms by looking at those pictures with the room ...

Swine Flu

About one week ago, we thought about writing IPhone app about swine flu. It will help IPhone users get the latest swine flu information. So we developed this free IPhone app in an afternoon, Swine Flu RSS. Comparing with other swine flu apps, it is simple and handy, and it has much faster download speed ...

Then we figured out the swine flue app should be released in early this week. It's interesting that there are so many swine flu apps "jumped out" every day since this Monday, now IPhone app store will show 23 apps by searching "swine flu" ...

Upgrade IPhone to OS 3.0 beta, resolved error 1012, 1064

We upgrade our IPhone SDK, IPhone OS to 3.0 beta today. It was easy to upgrade IPhone SDK, but for IPhone OS, it was OK for IPhone 3G, but we spent the whole afternoon for upgrading IPhone 2G, we ran into error again and again, with different error code 1012, 1064. Finally, we fingered out, the IPhone need to be put in DFU mode, please check this link:

Basically:

1. Open iTunes and connect the iPhone to your Mac.

2. Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time.

3. After exactly 10 seconds release the Sleep/Wake button. Continue holding the home button until you iTunes pops up a message telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.

4. Restore.

Our Story 1 - the beginning, about our first IPhone app "fresh"

We are Apple fans. Both of us have MacBook Pro, IPhone and IPod. Every time we went to Apple stores, we feel excited ...

So at the last Christmas ski trip, we decided to get our hands dirty by developing some applications on the cool device - IPhone with the handy language - XCode.

We were two CAL/Stanford geeks, we aimed really high for the first application(-:. We don't want to see the paper ads junked people's mailbox then is threw away right after pulled out of the mailbox ... We thought it will be nice to provide a tool for people to look up the fresh grocery promotion on their IPhone, and people would eat fresh food more if they can buy them at lower price. Bases on all those great ideas, we developed "fresh"

However, besides all the engineering efforts, we found it was very challenging to do sales and marketing. Both content providers and user base need to be built up .. We made great efforts to aggregate promotions from around 10 grocery store chains by ourselves, and we did weekly updates(Yes, we did lots of data entry work, download, clipping image, typing, very exhausted ...).

We use the app to check what's on sale in grocery stores ourselves now, also it's a great tool to find nearby grocery stores in Bay Area ...

Currently, only one big chain stores are covered in national wide due to our limited resource. And we hope more content providers will use our tool so the contents can be scaled up.
